EIB Group invests record €257 million in Slovenia in 2021
LJUBLJANA (Slovenia), February 4 (SeeNews) – The European Investment Bank Group, comprising the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the European Investment Fund (EIF), has invested a record $257 €2 million ($291.3 million) in Slovenia in 2021, it said.
The EIB lent €80 million under two operations and the EIF provided €177.2 million in guarantees covering loans to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), ETIs and municipalities under three separate operations in Slovenia last year, the EIB Group said. in a statement Thursday.
“The EIB Group has proven to be a reliable partner for Slovenia even in the most difficult times, and together with our partners in the country such as the Slovenian government, SID Banka and SRDF, commercial banks like UniCredit, we have ensured that Slovenia can continue to work, grow and develop faster, greener and more sustainably,” said EIB Vice-President Lilyana Pavlova.
The EIB’s €50 million loan to SID Banka’s municipal infrastructure investment program and €30 million to the Slovenian Regional Development Fund’s (SRDF) SME, ETI and municipality recovery program ) has brought total EIB investment in the country to €3.02 billion over the past ten years, notes the EIB Group.
“During the pandemic, we have adopted measures to help the population and the economy. The measures were aimed at preserving jobs and keeping the economy functioning. The measures were successful. It is important that during this period we also showed solidarity at EU level and adopted the Recovery and Resilience Facility,” Slovenian Finance Minister Andrej Sircelj said in the statement.
Since the start of its lending operations in Slovenia in 1977, the EIB has invested €7.29 billion in key sectors of the national economy, including small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), transport, energy and infrastructure.
